OutsideAround and about La Petite Gravelle

La Petite Gravelle is situated on the edge of a tiny hamlet with a population of less than 20 people and faces south-west across open countryside into the summer sunsets. The private, sun-trap courtyard is equipped with sunloungers, table and chairs and a generous-sized parasol.

The Gite is completely detached and the setting is extremely quiet and peaceful. La Petite Gravelle shares an additional 2,000sq metres of land with the owners, and guests are welcome to make use of it and the various sitting areas and tables dotted around. There is a 50m riverbank with the River Nie for much of the year, but it does dry in the height of the summer. The surrounding lanes are very quiet and are ideal for exploration on the mountain bikes we provide.
Our near-neighbour Eric Cartaud produces some excellent wines and Pineau - his vineyards are all around us and his 'cave' can be seen across the fields from the Gite. Never heard of Pineau? Try this link for a description of our local specialty!

Inside, the ground floor comprises an open-plan living area and fully-equipped kitchen with a modern shower room leading off from it. The focal point is a traditional Charantaise fireplace with its log-burning stove and a 'pierre apparent' exposed stone wall. There is a comfortable armchair and and a settee which converts to a bed for a third occupant if required. Among the comprehensive equipment is a CD and DVD player with a selection of English and French music and films. French digital TV is also available.

An open-plan stairway leads to the first floor where an airy bedroom contains a double bed, bedside cabinets, dressing table and wardrobe. Due to the traditional shape of the building there is limited headroom over the furthest part of the bedroom.

Electric heating is provided, with a log-burning stove for the winter, but summer guests are much more likely to appreciate the opening roof windows, stable door and ventilation fan.
